Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1329] Error message: SOX Encoding Zero Bytes (Code 57)

Page Type: SYMPTOM

OVERVIEW

This error message indicates that third-party SOX audio processing software on the feed site PC (included as part of the Rangecast software package) produced at least some audio files with zero bytes (no content), despite the original audio recording from Windows containing information.

METHOD

This is a rare error, and Rangecast has not determined a specific cause or solution.

In general, the first step is to reboot the PC and see if the error eventually clears.

(Note: the error may take some time to clear from the reporting pages, even if there is no further trouble, since this error message is left posted for an extended time as an indication of recent issues to aid in diagnosis.)

If the error persists for over a day, or if there are blatant indications of continuing trouble (such as no transmissions being successfully processed from the PC into Rangecast), further work can be done to check the PC for possible underlying issues.
