[FAQ-1142] Error message: AUDIO PORT ASSIGNMENT (Code 4)

Page Type: SYMPTOM

OVERVIEW

The "Audio Port Assignment" error message is not significant, although for certain other problems, it may provide useful insight. The average audio level from the scanner is expected to be much quieter between transmisisons, and louder during transmissions. This error message means that the actual level difference was small or absent. In the early days of Rangecast, when the audio input was manually selected, this statistical effect was monitored as a signal that the audio port selection might be incorrect. Now that the audio port selection is automated, this is no longer important. Nearly all error messages of this type are false alarms (but the signal is still useful, because when diagnosing other signals, this helps provide insight into the audio system.)
