Special Settings is a field on the PC feed site configuration screen for customizing various aspects of software features and performance. Commands entered here may affect all audio sources on the PC, or be directed to a specific scanner or audio source.
This field is entered in the gray text entry box titled "Special Settings" on the Rangecast configuration screen, which is accessed by starting Rangecast on a PC and pressing Configuration. [img-configuration_screen]
See Reference for a list of available commands. If multiple commands are entered, use a comma to separate commands (e.g. vfs=10, boot=0)
Before making changes to this field, let the software complete a search for attached hardware. At this point, "Port tests complete" will be shown in the upper-left of the screen. After entering or changing this field, press Save Changes.
Commands may be directed to particular scanners, or groups of scanners, based on their ID. For example, "11:color=W" will set the front color display on all scanners using feed site number 11 to white (with no effect on other scanners). "C:color=G" will set the display to green for all scanners with an ID like 10-C or 11-C (with no effect on 10-A or 11-A.)
This is a partial list of available commands:

boot=0
Prevents the Rangecast software from rebooting the PC (if this is not present, reboots may happen automatically when needed to correct a technical problem, and once per month as a background housekeeping function)

vfs=#
"Virtual Feed Site": report all transmissions through Rangecast as if they came from a specified feed site number (e.g. vfs=10) instead of the actual feed site number on the sender. This feature is intended for situations where the customer uses the Java player, and wants the flexibility of moving channels between sets of scanners without editing the player profiles.

quietx=0
The Rangecast software usually discards recordings of "quiet" transmissions where the average audio level is observed to be close to zero. This eliminates recordings with no meaningful content, such as "mic clicks" or silence.
To bypass this test, and send all recordings into Rangecast even if the audio seems to be virtually silent, use the "quietx=0" command to turn off this feature.

color=X
Sets the scanner front panel display to a specified color (if supported by the model of scanner.)
Options for specific colors include W=White, R=Red, Y=Yellow, G=Green, C=Cyan, B=Blue, M=Magenta. The special value "color=O" (upper-case letter) may be used to turn the backlight off.
To give scanners different colors in accordance with their feed site number, use "color=S" (if the last digit is 0 or 5, white; 1 or 6, green; 2 or 7, cyan; 3 or 8, yellow; 4 or 9, red). This may be useful if groups of differently programmed scanners are at the same physical location.
To give scanners different colors based on the letter of their ID (e.g. A,B,C) use "color=A". To give scanners different colors based on the order in which they are launched by the software, use "color=L". For a lightshow effect, to give scanners random changing colors, use "color=J".
If the color is not specified, the normal default is "L", unless the scanner uses the 'vfs' feature, in which case 'S' is used instead.

For use on computers with poor CPU performance, this mode suppresses some features (mostly through a simplified software display, such as removing the realtime audio level meters) to lighten the load on the computer.
