Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1334] Error message: No PC ID (Code 59)

Page Type: SYMPTOM

OVERVIEW

PCs used in Rangecast for feed sites (audio sources) are identified by a unique numerical ID that is automatically stored in the Rangecast software package. This error message means the PC ID was not found (either because it was deleted, or never created.)

BACKGROUND

The PC ID is a required component of the Rangecast system, because certain system functions depend on the identifier to correctly configure databases.

A PC ID should be created automatically as part of the normal Rangecast software installation process, so this is a rare error. Possible causes include:

(1) Use of an old PC that was put into service receiving content for Rangecast before this identifier was first introduced to the system,

(2) An attempt to install the Rangecast software that was not done according to the standard process

When the Anydesk remote desktop software is installed (this is used by Rangecast for maintenance), and Anydesk is then connected to the Rangecast system (part of the standard Rangecast installation process), Rangecast uses the Anydesk ID as the PC identifier. Therefore this error message should only be seen on PCs where Anydesk has not been installed, or where Rangecast has been installed incorrectly.

(Note: Even if Anydesk is not accessible to Rangecast while the PC is in service due to customer IT restrictions, Anydesk is usually installed to allow Rangecast operations access during software installation, and the Anydesk ID is then used thereafter as the Rangecast PC identifier even when Anydesk itself is not accessible.)

METHOD

To correct this issue, the recommended action is to install Anydesk

[FAQ-1324] Installing Anydesk on a PC where Rangecast software has already been loaded

Anydesk is remote desktop software used by Rangecast to access PCs. If Anydesk must be installed (or re-installed) on a PC where Rangecast software has already been loaded, you can use an Anydesk install script that is included as part of the Rangecast software.

(Note that, if this error is reported by Rangecast software, then the Rangecast software must already be running on the PC. So the appropriate Anydesk install instructions are for when Rangecast has already been installed on the PC, not a fresh install.)

If Anydesk is installed according to these instructions, the Anydesk ID will be used by Rangecast as the PC identifier, resolving the issue.
