Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1304] Snapshot Mode

Page Type: REFERENCE

OVERVIEW

In Snapshot Mode, the Rangecast player takes a frozen snapshot of all transmissions (from selected channels) previously recorded during a certain period of time, and makes this snapshot available for review on the Transmissions Panel. This is useful for reviewing an event, because the list of transmissions is static in this mode.

METHOD

Snapshot Mode is selected by clicking on the camera icon on the top bar of the Rangecast player. When Snapshot Mode is selected, this icon will show in white.

REFERENCE

History mode may be used to go back in time and listen to previously recorded transmissions. But in History mode, the list of transmissions is dynamic - constantly being refreshed to show additional transmissions as you move forward in time, and in a list of limited length fixed to the size of the display panel.

Snapshot provides an easier way to navigate through all the transmissions from a defined block of time, and is especially useful when reviewing the details of an event. The Transmissions Panel changes to a static list, and a scroll bar is added so you can scroll through the list of transmissions.

Before activating Snapshot Mode, ensure that the player has the channels you want selected for reception. And it will improve performance if channels you don't want are turned off. Snapshot will load a list of all transmissions within a time block on all channels marked for reception -- in large systems, it can be important to turn off channels you don't want, since otherwise it may make Snapshot hard to navigate.

When entering Snapshot Mode, the player will show a list of known transmissions from its current working (local) database. This is often sufficient if you are reviewing the details of a current event, or if you are switching over from History mode after locating a prior event.

In Snapshot Mode, the time slider (below the main player display) changes behavior to act as a slider for moving within the snapshot interval - the left edge being the start of the block, and the right edge being the end of the block.

However, if you want to navigate to an event at a prior time, you can directly enter the date/time below the main player screen (on the left of the time slider). When you click outside the date/time controls, the player will move to the indicated time in Snapshot Mode. By default, you will be presented with a list of all transmissions in a 15 minute block starting at the indicated time. If you want a shorter or longer block, you can adjust the ending time in the control on the right side of the slider.
