Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1303] History Mode

Page Type: REFERENCE

OVERVIEW

In History mode, the Rangecast player will play every transmission from selected channels and passing through any applied selection filters. (That is, nothing is skipped to stay current.) At low loads, this is a reasonable way to listen to current content, since even if the player falls back behind realtime it will catch up. This mode is also necessary when going back in time to review a prior event.

METHOD

History mode is selected by clicking on the clock icons on the top bar of the Rangecast player. When a mode is selected, the icon will show in white.

There are two separate History modes.

The normal History mode (called forward history) plays transmissions in sequence, and the icon (shown above) has a forward arrow around the clock.

To play audio in the opposite direction, there is also a "reverse history" mode. Each transmission will be played start to finish, but transmissions are played in reverse order (going backwards in time.) This is often useful for finding the start of an event. The icon shows an arrow going backwards relative to the clock face.

REFERENCE

Forward history may be the mode you would assume when working with an online player -- each transmission is played in order of broadcast. However, since Rangecast provides access to the audio from multiple scanners, it is common that the total quantity of audio will exceed 1:1 (more than 60 minutes of available audio recorded in each hour), so if every transmission is played, you may fall back in time. Therefore Monitoring Mode is recommended for users who want to stay current, and History mode is recommended for users who want to ensure that they hear every transmission even if this means falling back in time.
