[FAQ-1247] Adding a new channel

These steps describe how to add a new channel to a Rangecast originating hub

[FAQ-1173] How to add content to the programming that is reported as missing

When content is reported as not being received, check to see if (1) the channels are programmed but not being received, or (2) the channels are listed as available but not marked for reception, or (3) screened out from the available channel list by filters designating the geographic area and signal types of interest. If the channels are still not available, identify the database key for the content, explicitly add it to the content available for selection, and add it to the programming.

[FAQ-1122] When programming a hub, how to find a channel missing from the channel list

When programming a hub, it sometimes happens that a channel known to exist is missing from the list of available channels fetched from the master channel database. This provides guidance for how to adjust the selection parameters to fetch the channel (if present in the full database), or add it as a custom channel (if not present there.)

[FAQ-1108] How to divide trunked system reception between multiple broadcast towers

Some regional/statewide trunked systems operate many broadcast towers, and individual talkgroups on the system may be carried on only certain towers (for example, towers serving the region where a geographically local talkgroup is relevant.) In the programming system, it is possible to choose which towers to receive, and then choose which receive feed site to use for each selected tower. Talkgroups are automatically associated with the nearest tower to the channel's reference coordinates, and these choices may be overridden as necessary in the programmer.

[FAQ-1177] Programming scanners for reception from a trunked system with multiple towers

When programming a scanner in Rangecast to receive talkgroups from a trunked system with multiple towers, run a signal survey to evaluate which tower(s) should be used for reception, and then update the programming based on the results.

[FAQ-1198] Recommendations about the use of multiple feed site numbers at a single location

A feed site number is associated with a group of scanners at a single location that share the same programming, and operate in a coordinated way to efficiently scan the channels designated in that programming. However, if scanners have different characteristics (e.g. radio model, antenna, filter, etc) it is recommended that the scanners be divided into separate groups according to their characteristics, and each group given different programming (and a different feed site number.)

[FAQ-1151] Use of the Band Target column in the HTML5 programmer

When programming scanners in the HTML5 system, the software automatically associates broadcast channels with the geographically nearest feed site. While it is always possible to manually override this automatic selection and tie a channel to a desired feed site, it is advantageous to automate systematic preferences. When defining feed sites, the Band Target column provides a way to adjust the automatic default feed site selection process (the system's guess of the best feed site to use for a channel) in various ways that are systematic in nature.

[FAQ-1144] How to revert to an older version of a hub's programming (undo save or saves)

Sometimes it is necessary to undo changes to a hub's HTML5 programming, and restore a prior version of the programming configuration (received channels, selected broadcast towers, etc). In the entry screen of the HTML5 programmer, where the administrator may enter feed site locations and before pulling a list of relevant channels from the master nationwide channel database, there is a drop-down list of all prior saved versions. You may select any prior version, and then proceed ("click to load channel list") to load that prior configuration into the programmer. You may then optionally make changes, and save to the active programming version.

[FAQ-1140] How to restore trunking configuration (broadcast tower / receive site) to a prior working state

Sometimes reception of a trunked system is broken by the hub's programming changes to the selected broadcast tower and receive site. (This is most common when transitioning from the Java system to the HTML5 programming system.) This process describes how to choose a combination of broadcast tower and receive site that restores a prior known working configuration.

[FAQ-1237] Scanning a trunked system in ID-SEARCH mode

Normally a trunked system is scanned in ID-SCAN mode, where only selected talkgroups are received, and each received talkgroup is routed to a unique channel on Rangecast. An alternative is scanning a trunked system in ID-SEARCH mode, where all traffic received from a specific broadcast tower (regardless of talkgroup ID) is received, and all traffic is routed to a single channel on Rangecast.
