[FAQ-1257] Site 00 - Survey Only

Page Type: REFERENCE

OVERVIEW

Site 00 named "Survey Only" is a reserved pseudo-feedsite that does not correspond to any radio. Channels can be assigned to site 00 if you want them included in signal surveys, but not programmed into any radios for actual reception, and not included in the player.

BACKGROUND

The signal survey measures reception quality on all conventional channels included in an originating hub's programming, and from all trunked towers in systems with at least one talkgroup included in an originating hub's programming.

Also, channels in the programming are included in the player. However, sometimes it is desirable to have signal surveys routinely measure signal strength on channels that do not come in well enough to include in the player.

For such situations, channels can be assigned to special site number 00 named "Survey Only"; channels assigned there are included in the survey, but not assigned to any radio, and not presented in the player.

(This is preferred to assigning such channels to an actual receive site, since radios will perform better if they are not spending time scanning channels that cannot be received, and the player is less cluttered if it does not show channels that are not being received.)

A typical use case is for desired channels that don't come in well from existing sites, so if future site improvements or new receive sites result in this channel being receivable, surveys will automatically detect and report this result.

METHOD

To place conventional channels or trunking towers to survey-only mode, where you would select a receive feed site, choose site 00 "Survey Only".
