Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1239] Fixing Windows files for symptom Sender Not Responding

Page Type: SOLUTION

OVERVIEW

A problem can sometimes occur, apparently within the Windows operating system, that causes Rangecast software to freeze when accessing a Windows DLL necessary for communications over the network. A typical symptom is the senders freezing on launch at the "ping to server" stage. In at least some cases, this can be fixed using a Windows repair utility. (This process is also generally useful for attempting to correct unknown errors in the Windows operating system.)

METHOD

1. Stop the Rangecast software

2. From the Windows start menu, find Command Prompt (usually under Accessories) and right-click with "Run as Administrator".

3. At the command prompt, if this is a Windows 10 PC, type this command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

... and wait for the process to complete

4. At the command prompt (this applies to both Windows 7 and Windows 10), type this command:

sfc /scannow

... and wait for the process to complete

5. When finished, you can close that window, and relaunch the Rangecast software.

If the problem has not cleared, you may optionally try a reboot after performing this operating system repair. Or you can proactively reboot at this point, before launching Rangecast. However, the repair process by itself often clears problems.

Note: Our experience is that the "sfc" command actually fixes problems, even when the software reports that it found nothing to fix. So check to see if the system has become operational even if you see a message indicating that nothing was repaired.
