Some Windows PCs require that the user to manually enter a username and/or password when the PC boots up, before taking the user to a normal desktop. This process describes a Windows configuration option that will skip this username/password step on bootup, and launch the Windows desktop for a specific Windows user on the PC. This is beneficial for having the Rangecast software, which operates under a particular Windows user account, launch automatically when the PC boots up.
This is only relevant if, when the Windows PC boots up, the user interface stalls at a screen requiring a Windows username and/or password.
1. Click Windows Start button
2. In text box, type "netplwiz", then Enter [img-netplwiz_run]
3. A User Accounts dialog box will appear [img-netplwiz_accounts]
4. If the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" is not checked, then check the box (this is not the desired state, but it will release the current auto-login so you can reset this system)
5. Select the account you want to automatically log on to
6. Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
7. Click Apply; Automatically Log On dialog box will appear [img-netplwiz_auto]
8. Verify the user name, and if there is a password type it twice (typically it will be blank)
9. Click OK
Applies to Windows 7, 8, and 10
