Rangecast FAQ
[FAQ-1081] Ensuring scanner power and hardware connectivity

Page Type: SOLUTION

OVERVIEW

For use with Rangecast, a scanner must be attached to the PC in a way that supports both data and audio connectivity, and the scanner must be powered on.

METHOD

1) Verify that the scanner has power, and is turned on

The front panel display of the scanner should have visible text. If you see text, this verifies that the scanner has power and is turned on.

Note: This display is usually lighted with a backlight, but in some circumstances may be unlighted and depend on ambient light. Look carefully from various angles, in case the text is present but not as obvious as might be expected.

If you do not see text, turn the power/volume knob, in case it has been turned off.

If this knob turns without response, then check the power cord, in case the cord has been unplugged from a power source.

2) Ensure connectivity between the scanner and PC

The method for verifying these connections depends on the type of interface box that is used. Ensure that wires are securely connected (not loose.)

If the scanner is using a black interface box (separate hardware unit, supporting up to four scanners)

[FAQ-1079] Physically connecting a scanner to a PC (black interface box)

The black interface box is a Rangecast hardware unit for connecting up to four scanners to a PC through USB. On the PC side, the interface box has two USB cables, which must both be connected to the PC. For each scanner, two cables from the interface box must be attached -- one cable for data connectivity, and one cable for audio.
