Rangecast receives, stores and sends audio over the internet.  It blends concepts and sources from podcasting, two-way radio, streaming audio, RSS aggregation and instant messaging.  The result is a live library of audio content for both real-time monitoring and time-shifted replay or review.

We provide a method for distributing short audio clips (such as radio scanner traffic, podcasts, or voice instant messaging) over the internet, in a way quite different from conventional streaming. The user can select any mix of individual channels, monitor multiple sources without missed transmissions or overlap in playback, and seamlessly move in time between earlier transmissions and real time monitoring. If the content is permanently archived, users can later review an event while shifting both their point in time and the assortment of channels selected for reception. Whenever monitoring outside real-time, whether from a minute ago or a year ago, dead air between transmissions is removed.

Rangecast content can be public or private. Audio clips play in order, one after another, even if they were made at the very same time. Sources from across the network are assembled into customized feeds.  The audio may come from individuals, social networkers, news media, broadcasters, or two-way radio systems.  Audio is archived and can be replayed on demand.  Go back in time with Rangecast to hear what you missed or to listen again.  Send from anywhere.  Listen anywhere, live or delayed.

You can listen to Rangecast in action, monitoring live audio from multiple sites in the United States and Japan.
